Democracy, terms describe method of ruling country with the power held by citizens of community. However, with so many methods of running a democracy and less the understanding of its term yield the conflict at the moment.
What type of democracy being hold by the 2 side?
On the red corner, the demonstrator comprised of 2 major factors as followed.
- Tyrant majority where it believe the only right in democracy is majority right. Long as the head of state had the majority support, all the minority right could be violate and it could use the power to gain benefit to its’ own without charged of corruption.
- Extreme right wing that doesn’t accept monarchy since it can’t accept anything with birth right higher than its’ own. Though the matter is delicate, it must be pointed out that the extreme right wing exists. It also needs to be pointed out that this extreme right wing is almost as is a communism with forced equality.
On the yellow corner, the demonstrator and supported comprised of 2 major factors as well.
- Tyrant majority, it is in ironic that the yellow corner shares the common idea as the red corner. The tyrant majority in this case is pro moralism and supporter of religious law. Majority of Thai is Buddhist, despite Buddhist practice a middle way, these extreme Thai Buddhist try to raise moral suggestion (Sila:ศีล) to level of legal enforcement. It considers corruption as evil and should be crucified.
- Extreme conservative patriotism, the old power in other name, the conservation gone as far as anything differs from historical tradition must be wrong. Actually there existed better description of extreme conservative but over explanation would be as harmful as criticise a Scientologist on Hollywood. This extreme conservative was once describe as Thai way of democracy
The two sides led by corrupted leader namely Thaksin and Sondhi, both of them had many common namely being a self righteous, corrupted and both claim themselves patriotic and being religious. Two of which being in conflicted from personal interested and bring all under it’s’ power to hunt down each other.
Which side is right for democracy? I’d say both of them are right. It doesn’t matter if the democracy to be a democracy with tyrant majority, communism democracy, moralism democracy or patriotism democracy. Long as the power is from the citizen then it is democracy. Only thing that is not democracy is a dictatorship and Oligarchy.
What Thai really ask for if the democracy was already here?
Actually, what Thai really need is the freedom and right. However, to attain their freedom and right it would violate the other right in process. Basically, Thais don’t have idea for limitation of its right. The right always had two sides, one is our right and other is their right. Person had the right of freedom long as it doesn’t violate the other person right. Problem was never been complicate but Thai always overlook the basis of matter. Demand of right and freedom for Thai is more or less the demand of unlimited power to control the others. Since every one demand the unlimited power to control each other, Thai is vulnerable to be controlled by a corrupted politician or mob leader that promised the favour using process of majority tyrant.
Freedom and right was not limited to democracy but it was made to believe the Freedom and right could attain only through such process. There are many case of older system such as Monarchy and Oligarchy to be more freed than a democracy country would have. Considering Putan or the Military government on coup de tat 2006, when the head of state recognized what the citizen of the state need and respect the human right then even a so called military government or monarchy is better that a democracy.
From my point of view, both sides don’t even understand its’ own demand. While it request for freedom and right, it doesn’t practice accordingly to one. It is instead demand democracy on their term and believes democracy is the miracle cure to the disease infested in them. How could the democracy being a cure for Thailand if what they expected from democracy is something not in direct relation with democracy. No, neither with the term proposed from red or yellow.
To get out of the political conflict, Thai need to learn and understand their need. It also needs to understand term of freedom, human right, respect and even the relation between right and duty. No peace could be yield out of demanding, it required to sit down and discuss for understanding of oneself and other. That would be the start of resolution.
At current scenario, I had foreseen only annihilation and massacre.
